Emergency Targets Pakistani Activists
President Pervez Musharraf pursued his crackdown on lawyers and liberal activists
The general's suspension of the constitution has given Pakistani ؛authorities sweeping powers to detain without charge. Opposition groups reported at least 3,500 arrests over the preceding three days, many of them attorneys. Secretary of State Condoleezza Rice voiced her disappointment on Sunday and called for a review of U.S. security assistance to Pakistan in what seemed like a warning to Gen. Musharraf to stop the dictatorial backsliding. Yesterday, she also called for Gen. Musharraf to hold the January elections that he promised؛.

Pakistan’s situation with respect to its nuclear weapons plays very crucial role toward Iran. In one hand, Pakistan is an ally for U.S. to fight terrorism and for U.S. Iran is a terrorist country. But Pakistan ignored U.S. financial help to war on terror and by declaring emergency rule; it did not accept U.S. demand. Definitely U.S. never let Pakistan do whatever it wishes, and it may lead to military presence of U.S. in Pakistan, which means another problem in Middle East. Before these events Pakistan even was insecure and recently too many were killed by explosion of bomb. Military presence of U.S. forces to result in more insecurity.
On the other hand if Musharraf can not overcome these riots and government falls, it is not clear who will control the conditions considering nuclear weapons. Not only is it threatening to Iran but also to the world. Moreover as we know Iran have contract with India and Pakistan to send its natural gas to these countries but if these condition result in civil war or more conflicts, this contract will be affected. Our country is located between two insecure country (Iraq & Afghanistan) which both of them are involved in civil war, and in both of them U.S. soldiers are present. If Pakistan attaches to them, another serious problem will be created for Iran.
